Hand-drawn poster honouring Alt-J, an English indie rock band formed in 2007 in Leeds. Their lineup includes Joe Newman, Thom Sonny Green, Gus Unger-Hamilton, and formerly Gwilym Sainsbury.

The drawing is of a wave, as a reference to their debut album, An Awesome Wave, which won the 2012 British Mercury Prize.

The dreamlike atmosphere was created to make justice to Alt-J's poetic lyrics, sometimes cryptic, often with a hidden meaning that the listener can interpret in a way that speaks to them, hence why the band's name is part of a message in a bottle.

Their soothing melody is rhythmic, and calming, yet strong, like the sea, which is often referenced in their beautiful songs, like "Dissolve Me". "She makes the sound, the sound the sea makes to calm me down." and in their song "Bane" tells tales about underwater swimming.

Like many of us, the band members of British indie rock band Alt-J read the beloved children’s book Where the Wild Things Are. The book, which was published in 1963, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak, inspired the band’s most famous single “Breezeblocks".

The print holds other elements from Sendak's illustrations, such as Max's spectre and crown on the anchor the diver is sitting on, as well as his boat, looking like a triangle in the distance, a direct link to the fact that the band's actual name is the triangle-shaped symbol Δ (the capital Greek letter delta).

An Awesome Wave's cover art shows an overhead view of the largest river delta in the world, where the Ganges River meets the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh, a hint of that part of the world is the rich orange paisley the diver is wearing. He is also playing a Fender guitar, Joe Newman's gear of choice, responsible for all of the songs we love.
